Greetings fellow OG Planeteers!
The OG Planet design team took some painstaking turns to craft this article in order to give you or your design team a hand up when incorporating OG Planet’s assets in your site, fan art or even shirt. Yes, we want you to print out stickers and stick them on your car windshield!
Fun, Quick, Entertaining and Memorable
When we were thinking of OG Planet’s logo, we were thinking of something that would ‘stick’. We wanted people to remember it fondly – something that would keep them coming back for more and bringing their friends with them.
Name recall is high on our agenda so we used the word ‘Planet’ to elucidate something universal. OG, on the other hand, instigated that sense of originality and authority. Hence, OGPlanet was born with the goal of being a forerunning authority in the field of reward advertising and marketing.
The Power of Typography and Fonts
Every successful brand was built on a successful product. Every successful brand is identified with the logo and the font. Sometimes, these elements are combined to evoke certain feelings on the part of those who own the company, its partners, and the customers who see it. Sometimes, this perception blends perfectly. Identity is created when there is a synthesis of all the perspectives.
When you see the Apple logo, you see an apple with a bite mark. This has several connotations and references. In the Hebrew and Christian bible, it bears reference to the story of when Adam and Eve bit from the forbidden fruit of knowledge. Thus, it signified a type of revolution, and in Apple, the company’s case, it was about the computer revolution. Alternatively, it could also refer to Newton’s Apple. The theory of gravity would change how we view the world and the universe around us.
Google also evolved its logo’s typeface. Apparently, each change in the Google logo indicated a phase in Google’s development as a company – and its founders’ state of being. These ranged from the multicolored Adobe Garamond, with which most 90’s Internet users are familiar with. To the now ubiquitous and more corporate looking typeface, Product Sans. Even the name speaks so much of how Google has changed. Who would name a font, “Product”?
Simple, yet powerful.
The Golden Ratio / Fibonacci Equation
We started on OG with a halo-like ring traversing around the letter ‘O’. For insiders in the know, ‘OG’s etymology derives from US street slang denoting “Original Gangster”. It also bears its origins from 1970’s gang culture, which references gang members who were identified as having been originally recruited or belonging to a specific generation, ie. gangsters such as Al Capone, Scarface, etc. Later on, it was ascribed to the Original Eastside Crips. Today, it mostly connotes “originality” and is now often utilized in popular culture and music.
The purple ring traverses the letter ‘O’further emphasizes “originality” and “tenure”. It indicates the cyclical nature of the rewards marketing and advertising platform. Marketers and advertisers offer rewards for participants. Participants engage in various activities that promote the marketer’s and advertiser’s products or services. This potentially leads to sales and revenue. These sales and revenue are “given back” to the market participants in more rewards and offers. It goes on and on for as long as the campaign is successful.
Any project with a global worldview has to project that aura of universality.
Since OG Planet is primarily about rewards using gift cards, we encapsulated the word Planet, within a graphical gift card. For the typeface, we used Burbank Condensed Bold, which as many of the younger gamers know, is the font used for Fortnite’s logo. As of August 2018, Fortnite had about 78.3 million users. Yes, OG Planet wants to reach that level!
The font choice was borne out of expedience and identification.
We needed to incorporate the success of Fortnite as a game, though there are other offers that reward participants with other worthy rewards.
The results of these iterations culminated in several choices that had to blend in with the overall theme of the site. It had to be fun, vibrant, playful, and yet authoritative enough to merit credibility as a legitimate innovator in the space of rewards marketing and advertising.
Condensed, the team evaluated the color choices by how it jives with the web design team’s specifications.
Fret not, avid OG Planet fans! We have transparent images coming right up for you. Print them on your shirt, mugs, hoodies and those bumper stickers!

The rewards marketing and advertising niche will be big. Despite the onset of the Coronavirus, we view this as a temporary setback to what we believe to be a blockbuster hit. As such, we are expecting a deluge of fans to follow. No fan base would be complete without some fan merchandise.
